The whole mount ended up falling off when I was driving. Since then, I have been using the dashboard/windshield suction mount and everything’s fine. Doesn’t vibrate or drop the phone or fall off. Haven’t tried the dash mount yet but with it working so well in the vent I doubt I will. I WOULD recommend this to a friend. Very glad I made this purchase. I guess my GPS vent mount is from the same company because the mounts are compatible and now I don’t have to detach the vent piece when swapping between using my car and my wife’s car. This mount works great for the iPhone 4 and more than likely any smartphone or PDA.

I needed a mount to replace the proprietary mount for my GPS, so I could mount my dinc2, and it works. Haven’t tried the vent clips, but the window mount sticks well and hasn’t fallen off.

I’ve heard the clip doesn’t reach far enough into the vent to work, but I don’t use it. I wouldn’t have written this review unless it was five stars or zero. The vent mount is very unstable and the clips do not securely fasten to the vent vanes. In fact, two of the vanes were damaged by these clips and do not open or close with the lever along with the rest of the vanes anymore. I wish I would have bought the one with the built in dock to save time but my dad did and he hates the suction cup and loves the cradle. He originally had this one and loved it but wanted to upgrade so he didn’t have to mess with a cable all day. This little thing is so neat and handy. It’ll easy adjust to fit your phone with or without a phone cover/protector of any sort because it expands so quickly and easily.

Have to switch to windshield mount. This mount worked perfectly. I actually use this attached to my CD player section as I never use it. It works just as well as it did on the AC vent (I moved it because it gets way too hot here to only have one vent pointed at you and I felt bad using the passenger side vent). Then the plastic gears stripped their teeth and the unit would no longer hold my phone tightly. The phone is secure over rough roads and with the case on; I am not worried if it falls in the car. Overall a great value compared to many other universal smartphone car docks.

The suction clip is apparently designed to be used with the plate. The distance between the cup and the back of the cradle is so short (and limited as well in angle) that mounting on a wind shield basically doesn’t work.

I emailed Arkon, and got a very fast response (within a day.) They shipped me out a replacement suction cup. They never asked me for a receipt, although they did request some pictures of the unit.

It is substantial enough for my EVO 4G smartphone. storage kitchen cabinets.
